Happy Hanukkah!!

Hey guys! Wow, it’s been a long time. Life has been packed lately…. with procrastination… which is why I waited till the last day of Hanukkah to write my Happy Hanukkah post.🙄

But without further ado….

HAPPY HANUKKAH!!! *showers you in oil*

In case you don’t know what Hanukkah is:

Ha·nuk·kah
/ˈhänəkə,ˈKHänəkə/
noun
  1. a lesser Jewish festival, lasting eight days from the 25th day of Kislev (in December) and commemorating the rededication of the Temple in 165 BC by the Maccabees after its desecration by the Syrians. It is marked by the successive kindling of eight lights.

Today we’re celebrating the last day of Hanukkah. The Festival of Lights. A time of miracles. This week (or last week, I should say) we celebrated the rededication of the temple, the preservation of the Torah, and God’s faithfulness towards his people.

We weren’t able to keep up with some of our tradition, because, like I said, life has been packed, we’ve been remodeling our kitchen, and we didn’t get any gelt. 😥 (C’mon. chocolate stuff!)

But, despite skipping out on gambling for chocolate money, we had a wonderful week. As always, we fried latkes (a traditional Hanukkah food), lit our hanukkiahs, remembered Judas Maccabeus… who fought hard to free us… (that’s from a song, I know it), and listened to Hanukkah music every night.

(Can you even say you celebrated Hanukkah if you didn’t listen to the Maccabeats’ “Candlelight” for all eight nights? …Okay, yes. Yes you can. But you’re really missing out.)

Also, we did a gift exchange this year, which was a little different, but fun. Our parents bought us a big tube of glow-sticks, so we were all like:

How is your holiday season? Anyone else celebrating Hanukkah? D’you get any cool Christmas or Hanukkah gifts? I recently read The Scarlet Pimpernel for the first time and loved it, and my sister surprised me with a hardcover copy as a Hanukkah gift. 😀

This was me on the inside.^ 😂 (Thank you, Grace!)

Well, we’re going into 2020 now, which is crazy. I don’t really make any New Years Resolutions, but I would like to start blogging more consistently. (My inner procrastinator says I’ll start blogging more consistently once life slows down…. as if that’s going to happen sometime soon…)

Anyway, I wish you a Happy Hanukkah, Happy New Year, and Lord willing I’ll see you all in 2020! 🙂

Aaand here’s an easy recipe for latkes for you to grab on your way out. C’mon, just hit that link. You won’t regret it. 😉

  2. Okay. What’s the Maccabeats video with the glow sticks? And I have to agree, it’s just not Hanukkah without listening to/singing along with/crazy happy dancing to
    Maccabeats!
Also, welcome to the club of The Scarlet Pimpernel fans!

  3. Of course, I gotta say I’m loving the Scarlet Pimpernel gifs you’ve got going in your posts.

Hanukkah seems like a fun holiday to celebrate!! My family is probably the least celebratory pod of people in the history of time. HOWEVER. I was the one child born with a love of festivity. (To testify–I convinced my family to get a Christmas tree after much discussion, and I put on the lights and decorated it. I even have a little fake tree in my room)

I need to force yet another holiday on my poor family. HUZZAH! *throws chocolate money and latkes on everybody*

    1. Haha, thank you! ❤

Yes, Hanukkah is one of the funnest holidays! We’re not the most celebratory family either (Well, that might not be true, we do like to celebrate, so I guess I should say we’re not the most ceremonious family. 😛 ), but we do enjoy putting up lights and Hanukkah decorations. That’s wonderful that you brought some festivity to your home. 😊

Haha, yes! You would get a whole nother eight days of lights and cheeriness.😄
