Why, hello there folks! Welcome to another post on Lionhearted Art, where weirdness abounds and… arty lion stuff happens, I guess.
(I’ve tried writing an intro to this post three times. Please give me a little grace.)
Let’s just get straight to the thing, shall we?
The Process of a Drawing According to The Emperor’s New Groove
Disclaimer: I will say, due to choosing The Emperor’s New Groove for this post, it may make me look like a miserable jerk, who hates her work (hey! that rhymes), but the truth is, I love getting commissions that push me out of my comfort zone, I love my clients, and I’m incredibly thankful that God’s given me this gift and that I’m able to do this thing.
How the process begins: someone comes to you with a commission…

When they ask about pricing, but you haven’t figured all that out yet, and you enjoy art so much that it doesn’t really matter anyway:

But then you remember that you sort of need money sometimes:

Trying to find the right reference photos:

When you finally find the perfect reference photo:

Getting started:

When you’ve been working for hours, and you take a step back to look at it:

When you’re half way done, the excitement has worn off, and something doesn’t quite look right, but you’re not sure what it is. So you just stare at it like:

When you try to fix it, but it just keeps getting worse:

And your friends keep telling you it looks great, even though you know it doesn’t:

What you want to do with the drawing at this point:

But you keep working on it, and you finally get it just right (you think):

So you present it to your client and ask if there’s anything they want you to change, and they say, “There is one little thing…”

“It doesn’t quite look the way I wanted it to.”

Going back into the studio like:

Procrastinating:

More procrastinating:

When someone says, “Hey, shouldn’t you be working on that commission?”

Finally getting started again:

When you’re in the zone and someone interrupts you:

Staying hydrated while you work:

When you show your drawing to someone, and they try to pick it up:

How you expect your client to react when they see it again:

How they actually react:

You:

The proper way to receive compliments:

The improper way to receive compliments:

And (because I just had to), the epic reveal of what you were actually drawing:

And then someone else comes to you with a commission and you do it all again. Because even with all the hard work (and sometimes stress), you really do love art, and it’s worth it.
Hope you enjoyed this post!
Until next time…

Oh my goodness I was laughing through this entire post 😂 I showed it to one of my sisters and she laughed through it too. Honestly, Emperors New Groove is the best when it comes to GIFs-oh, and also I’ve never been able to find the hammer one before!! It’s awesome 😆

That’s where I find most of my gifs, actually. There was another one with the whole part about turning him into a flea, etc. 😂

Oh, that’s awesome! 😁 I didn’t think of it that way, but now that you mention it I can see how it would fit with that process too. 😄
