Happy Belated Hobbit Day!!

Hello all! How are things going?

Today (well, yesterday, by the time you’re read this) we celebrated Hobbit Day. Aka, Bilbo and Frodo’s birthday. Aka, September 22nd.

But wait, you’re saying, yesterday was the 23rd.

Well, yes, you’re right. We were late in our celebrating. We were also pretty low-key. We did talk about planning out a menu with all the Hobbit meals filled out. You know, breakfast, second breakfast, elevenses, luncheon, afternoon tea, dinner, and supper. But I guess we decided that would be a bit excessive.

I was going to serve apples for second breakfast, Aragorn style…

Just kidding, I wouldn’t throw apples at my siblings. We didn’t have any apples anyway.

So instead, we just planned an afternoon tea, which actually ended up being more of a late afternoon tea… early dinner… feast…. thing.

I made some Lembas Bread.

Here are the ones I made.

They actually turned out pretty good. Of course everyone pretended to be full after one bite. That’s alright. More for me. XD Here’s the recipe, in case you want to try them. 😉

We actually did quite a bit of cooking.

I told them to smile and Tzipi was the only one who listened. (Ari wasn’t actually upset, he was just making a face, and then he looked away right when I took the picture. :P)

Pretty sure Earnest was doing a Gollum impression in this one. (In case you can’t tell, we had a lot of fun making food together.)

Linus is the only clear one in this picture. XP

Tzipi made peanut butter cookies, which she was very proud of, as you can see.

Mommy was going to make deviled eggs. They later got turned into egg salad, but Beni had way too much fun playing with the piping container.

That smile!

Jerusha and I made tiny tortilla pizzas. Granted, these probably aren’t “Hobbit-approved” foods….

…But then Earnest went full-on rebel and made a Redwall recipe. “Um, excuse me, sir. This is a Hobbit party.”

Then he ate three potato “farls”, as he calls them, in front of us all. Look at that. He’s got no shame. XD (He did teach me that farl means “four parts” in Gaelic, though. So I’ll give him that.)

Do my brothers even know what “Smile!” means? 😛

At least someone does… 🙂

Ignore the messy table, bad lighting, and crooked angle. Other than that it’s an awesome picture. 😀

Well, those are about all the pictures I got from out unexpected party.

Besides all the feast preparation, I also made some LOTR fan art. Because one does not simply pass up the opportunity to make fan art. Since it was Frodo’s birthday I decided to do a drawing of him and Sam.

Frodo and Sam [small]
“I am glad you are here with me. Here at the end of all things, Sam.”― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Return of the King
My siblings seemed pretty unimpressed with this. Haha, oh, well. XD

I was going to do a drawing of Bilbo, since it was his birthday too. But as Bilbo himself says:

“Time! Time!”

-Bilbo Baggins, The Hobbit

Yeah… I didn’t have the time. Maybe next year. 🙂

And of course we can’t forget the LOTR/Hobbit music!! We don’t actually have any of the soundtracks, so I contented myself with the Piano Guys, “Lord of the Rings“; and Peter Hollens, “I See Fire“. Even if you’ve never read the books or seen the movies, these are still really awesome! (I know because I listened to both of them before I had seen the movies or read any of the books. 😉 [I’m still working through the LOTR books.]

Lastly I’ll leave you with an inspiring quote, because it seems fitting.

“Even the smallest person can change the course of the future.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings

Well, that’s about all from here. Did you celebrate Hobbit Day? Who is your favorite Hobbit? Do you even like LOTR? Is fan art real art? Leave a comment and let me know your thoughts!

Until next time, may the hair on your toes never fall out…. 🙂

Fly, you fools!

  1. Awww I wish I had thought of doing this! That is just too cool! Maybe next year….
But to be honest. Out of all the other books you could make recipes out of. What could be a better choice than Redwall?? 😂😂
    Haha I loved this post.

  2. This is so awesome! Alas, I did not celebrate Hobbit day, though I am disappointed in myself since I am the biggest LOTR fanatic in the area. People say I’m a bit…obsessed? But of course that’s ridiculous. 😉 I have never made lembas before, but I shall have to try it someday. Yours looks quite tasty.
And your fanart is SPECTACULAR. Holy moly. I am indeed impressed. I think any art that is GOOD is real art, whether fanart or otherwise.
I like Aragorn style apple serving. 🙂 Not that I’ve ever done it of course.
I LOVE the music from LOTR. I used to listen to it all the time. Some of it is truly gorgeous. Sometimes it makes me get a little weepy.
Great post, and happy belated Hobbit day!

    1. Well, there’s always next year. Or you could just celebrate it late like we did. XD And yes, I highly recommend the lembas. They weren’t quite like I imagined, but still extremely good!
Aw, Thank you so much! Yes, I agree that fanart is real art. I just know that there are people out there who don’t agree. :/
Yes, I would love to get the soundtrack sometime. 🙂
      Thanks again!

  3. You mean there is such a thing as a Hobbit Day and I didn’t know about it?!! Am I even a LoTR’s fan?! And poor Jeb…I promise I’ll remember next year. 😛
Awesome post and that fan art of Frodo and Sam is to die for! I LOVE it!! ❤️❤️❤️

  4. THIS IS A GREAT IDEA!! Why did I not know this?? Haha, I’m definitely going to have to do it next year. I have a sister who would be very willing to celebrate with me…
LAMBAS. Yum! We once made it for a bride shower for my sister-in-law (I was thrilled that she wanted it LOTR themed). We even wrapped it in humongous leaves. 😛 There was some of Bilbo’s seedcake, too. That was really good.
The Redwall books have always made my mouth water. Come to think of it, we have a Redwall cookbook! *goes to make something out of it*

    1. Yes! You’ll have to join our blog party next year! 😀
Oh, that is so neat! An LOTR themed bride shower sounds awesome!! Yeah, I looked up a recipe for Bilbo’s seedcake, but it called for a couple ingredients that we didn’t have on hand. 😛
I’ve actually never read the Redwall books, though my brother has tried very hard to get me to. I did read one of the graphic novels, though, which was neat.
